The following video, from WawamuStats, shows the ten largest economies in the world every year since 1960.
In 1960, the largest economies in the World were: the US, the UK, France, China, Japan, Canada, Italy, India, Australia, and Brazil. By 1977, Japan and Germany had surged to second and third place respectively, and China and India had fallen off of the top ten list completely. By the mid 1990s, Japan’s and Germany’s growth had peaked, France and Italy began to lag behind significantly, and China was beginning its climb back up the rankings. As of 2017, the ranking are: the US, China, Japan, Germany, the UK, India, France, Brazil, Italy, and Canada. China is now almost as close to surpassing the US economy in size as Japan came in 1996.
