Dr. Steven Hatfill, virologist and professor of medicine at George Washington University, recently spoke with The Epoch Times about the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. Amid a wide ranging discussion, he notes that local authorities in major cities across the US have been warned for 15 years to start preparing for something like Coronavirus (ever since SARS). He also notes that with population densities rising in metropolitan areas around the world, it is inevitable that yet more viruses like Coronavirus will emerge in the coming decades.
Some excerpts from Dr. Hatfill:
“Our major cities have had 15 years (since SARS) to pre-plan for an event like this. The were told by some of the top scientists in the world that this is going to happen. We are living under population densities that are unnatural. In fact, no other species of large mammal has achieved these population densities before. We’re all living in a biological experiment, if you will. Public health in the 21st century has to be ranked up there with the level of national defense. This is a strategic issue… This has to be treated as part of national defense.”
“This will pass, by the way. This is not the Omega Man scenario… We’ll get through this. There are worse things out there with 50% mortality rates in animal models. These are the ones that are still to come. So, this is probably our last warning from mother nature that we need to take emerging infectious disease and give it the same prominence as we do national defense.”
There is much more to the interview, so enjoy it above.
