The following map, from Vivid Maps, shows the percentage of the population that consider themselves ‘Not Religious’ in various Middle Eastern and North African nations. The results are based on two 25,000 person surveys conducted in 2012-2014 and 2018-2019 by the Arab Barometer and Princeton University.
Exactly what ‘Not Religious’ means undoubtedly varies widely from person to person and country to country, and while 77% survey respondents say that they pray every day and half listen to or read the Quran every day, the percentage of people that do not consider themselves to be religious has increased sharply in most countries, particularly among those under 30 years old.
