The following chart confirms the suspicion that rents are rising faster than renter income in the US. While readers who rent their homes probably don’t need a chart to believe this trend is real, Apartmentlist.com has analyzed census data and (presumably) rents of apartments handled through their website and made a nice visualization of the growth in rent and renter income since 2007. From the chart, it is clear that renter income didn’t recover to 2007 levels until 2015. Between 2007 and 2015 rent increased 4.1% while incomes only increased 2.6%.
