The following chart, from Statista.com, shows which countries around the world have the highest concentration of Ultra-High Net Worth Individuals, people with a net value of at least $30 million.
In terms of total numbers, the United States has the largest ‘super-rich’ population in the world at 81,340 people. China is second with 24,965 super-rich individuals and Japan is third with 17,855 people.
However, when looking at the super-rich population on a per-capita basis, as the chart above does, Hong Kong is by far the global leader. Hong Kong is followed by Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Singapore. Ireland’s lenient tax system has made is a top destination for the super-rich as well.
Given the questions now being raised about Hong Kong’s future as an autonomous region in China, one has to wonder how many of its super-rich are now looking for a new place to call home.
