The following map, from Reddit user /ratkatavobratka, shows Europe in 1444 AD in tremendous detail.

1444 is a particularly significant year as this map reveals the borders of Medieval Europe right before the Ottoman Empire’s crushing victory against the Hungarian-Polish and Wallachian armies at the Battle of Varna. That defeat marked the beginning of nearly three centuries of Ottoman expansion into Europe, reaching it’s high water mark just prior to the equally pivotal Ottoman defeat at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
