Dear Readers,
As you may have noticed, I have been preoccupied with other affairs for the last few days. While that is keeping me from maintaining the typical schedule of posts here at The Sounding Line, it has also given me a chance to reflect more generally on the site and ponder its future. In that vein, I thought I would pose some questions to you directly:
Why do you read The Sounding Line and what would make it better?
What do you want to see more of or less of? Do you derive more value from the ‘Top News Stories’ or the main articles that I write? Would you like to see more articles with less narrative, more ‘Top News Stories and fewer articles, fewer but more detailed articles, or something else?
I greatly enjoy maintaining The Sounding Line for our readers and would greatly appreciate your sincere feedback. You can leave a comment below, email me at contact(at)thesoundingline.com, or find me on Twitter.
As always, if you would like to be updated via email when we post a new article, please subscribe here. It’s free and we won’t send any promotional materials. Also, if you enjoy The Sounding Line, please consider sharing it with others who might enjoy it as well.
Thank you very much,
Taps Coogan

I like the headlines and their topics. Also, I enjoy the charts that you post. As for the other blog posts, I don’t usually read them. Not because they are bad or anything like that but because I’m mainly using the site to keep up on interesting news bits and informative charts.
Thanks for the feedback! By headlines do you mean the links to the articles in the ‘Top News Stories’ column?
Yes, ‘Top News Stories’ column.
Thanks
I have often thought it would be good if you could look back at older top news stories, so that the links were kept rather than just having the “few” that are on the main page. You keep your own blogs which I also read but not the lists of top news stories.
Noted. Will look into it. Thanks
I check in usually a few times a day while at work for both the top news stories and the original content. I appreciate the economic and world news that is posted here. I basically visit every link posted, since the sounding line has become one of my favorite curations of news content.
My only complaint is there sometimes isn’t enough content to read, as I’ve become a savage addict to this website. Please keep it up and thank you for your excellent curation of content!
Thanks Nick. Glad to hear that you enjoy the site. I’ll try keep the content fresh 🙂
A ‘search’ function will be nice to have, enabling users to look for something to read or watch again
Hi Rico. There is actually a search field on the left hand column under the ‘Email Subscription’ box. I will try and make it more visible. Thanks for the feedback.
I would appreciate you not using “cookies.” I am tired of being spied upon where ever I travel in cyberspace.
Good news. The Sounding Line does not use targeted advertising and we don’t use third party tracking cookies because we respect the privacy of our readers. Pretty much every website including The Sounding Line uses at least some functional cookies do things like manage commenting
I read it because of Taps’s cool name. And the interesting quick reads are unique.
🙂
Hello Mr. Coogan, First off, I sincerely appreciate The Sounding Line. If find that it is balanced and highlights important topics and ideas without the harbinger of doom that some other blogs do (ZH for example). The blog also finds many more uplifting articles from sources that I would never have had a chance to find elsewhere. Improvements could be made in how the blog shows up on mobile phones. On a computer it is well laid out, on a phone the layout stretches the text a great deal and requires some extra effort to navigate. The Sounding Line is… Read more »
Bruce, thanks for the feedback. I agree the mobile layout isn’t great. I have demo-ed a few different approaches and am yet to find a solution that I like aesthetically that also lets readers easily see the top news stories and the main articles. In search of a solution
Interesting news. Minimal politics. Enjoyable read. Has become my GoTo interest source. It is what News should be.
Thank you.
Thanks for your interest in the site
I have found the articles, which are mostly demographic or economic in subject matter, that are linked to the email notifications I receive very informative, well-written, well- researched, concise and nicely illustrated with excellent graphs, and charts. More links to the source material used, and providing some political context for the pieces, where applicable, and not too much work, would be nice. The work is exceptional in its clarity, illustration, and subject matter research. Thank you for doing it!!
Thanks for the feedback. Noted on the source materials links/context.
Just keep doing the same thing that you’re doing.
Thanks!
absolutely interesting articles…exactly what I would look at except they are distilled in 1 blog…perfect! thank you!
Thanks for the feedback
I want you to offer a basic paid subscription rate. No idea how you maintain this off of what has to be less than $10 a day. I would imagine that most people would gladly pay $20/40/60 a year to keep this alive. Make it structured, safe, and simple. I don’t want to loose The Sounding Line.
Sir, would you consider interviewing people on video. I would imagine you would be an insightful host? Even just sound would be insightful.
I’ve told Taps this already by email. I really enjoy this site. The content of the site is very varied and very interesting. But more importantly the content is left there and if one feels the need to express a comment they may do so.
This site is a breath of fresh air. Please do keep up the good work/
There is an appealing freshness in the way you present economic information, punctuated with articles on history and scientific discoveries. I enjoy your comparative information on the States of the Union, and the historical day by day graphics. I am grateful there is no corporate/partisan sponsor calling the shots with your publication. Thank you!
I like that there’s a good amount of non-political news on this site. I’m an American reader and it seems like almost every news source I know of has been heavily focused on domestic politics since the last election, with many pieces being more commentary and pushing viewpoints than objectively reporting what’s going on. The broader focus of this site and the variety of news sources is why I recommend it to my friends and why I keep coming back.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoy the site
I love the uniqueness of your topics and well as the fascinating visuals. Your info helps me file away obscure trivia and important stuff too that I can bring up later in conversation and sound real smart. Always makes me smile.
