As of the wee hours of the morning on January 6th, this is how the balance of political power in the US looks likely to shape up in 2021, 2022, and beyond.

The left/democrats derive support from, have appointed, or will soon control: the House, the Senate, the White House, a slight majority of Federal Judges up to but not including the Supreme Court, nearly all public & private union leaders (although less so for members), most of the federal bureaucracy, the mainstream media & Hollywood, nearly all US Allies, every single large tech and social media company, most of the 20 wealthiest people in the US, academia, a slight majority of Wall Street money, every single demographic group in the country other than whites, nearly every large city in the US.

The right/Republicans derive support from, have appointed, or control: the Supreme court, a slight majority of S&P 500 companies, the governorship of a slight majority of states, a majority of state legislatures, whites, rural America.

Most of the power centers on the left are generational. Other than rural white voters, the fastest shrinking voting block in the US, there really aren’t many durable power bases on the right. The only thing that stands between democrats and a generation of political control is now themselves.
