The following video, by YouTube creator World of Data, details the changing populations of the biggest European countries since 1600 AD, when the Ottoman Empire was the most populous country in Europe with a population of 26 million. Today the Russian Federation is the most populous country in Europe with population of 144 million people (roughly 75% of whom actually live in Europe).

Beyond the fluctuations of the major civilizations of Europe over the centuries, the most interesting aspect of European population trends may be the fact that every single country in Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe is expected to see its population peak in the coming two decades. Many already have. What a bad time to be gorging on ever higher amounts of debt.
