While the population of the world is expected to continue to grow for decades, that growth can now largely be attributed to just two things: continued population growth in Africa and increases in life expectancy elsewhere.
As the following chart from the creator of the wonderful website Econimica highlights, the number of births in the world ex-Africa actually peaked in 1989 and the number of women between 15 and 35 years old has peaked in the last few years, making any overall non-immigration population growth outside Africa essentially a function of increasing life expectancies.
