The following woodcut of the medieval city of Nuremberg is from the book The Nuremberg Chronicle, published in 1493. The book contains numerous woodcarvings by Wilhelm Pleydenwurff and his son Michel Wolgemut. It was one of the first printed books, a so-called incunable, and among the first to incorporate images and text.

Anyone visiting Germany should visit the older part of Nuremberg, it is an incredible city with many surprises waiting within its walls.
Another great walled city is Carcassonne in Southern France. There you can walk along inside the massive medieval fortress. In both cities, it is easy to imagine how people lived long ago.
