As part of our ongoing series of historical video-maps, we present: ‘Every Year in the History of the Middle East,’ from YouTube creator EmperorTigerstar. Starting in 2500 BC, at the dawn of the Egyptian and Sumerian precursor civilizations, and running until 2017, the following video shows the geographic history of the Middle East.

The Middle East is, and has always been, one of the most dynamic and contested regions on Earth. The Middle East has borne witness to a staggering stream of civilizations which have vied for control of territory and shaped the world we live in today: the Sumerians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Assyrians, Greeks, Phoenicians, Macedonians, Romans, the Caliphates, the Ottomans, the British and French Empires, and many more.
