Map of the Day: the History of North America

Submitted by Taps Coogan on the 25th of February 2018 to The Sounding Line.

As part of our ongoing series of historical video-maps we present: ‘The History of North America,’ from YouTube creator EmperorTigerstar. Beginning with the Mayan civilization in Mesoamerican around 700 BC and running until the present day, the following video shows the geographic history of the various pre-columbian civilizations, the colonization of North America by European powers, and the emergence of independent states like the US, Mexico, and Canada. It is easy to forget just how dynamic the geographic history of North America has been. The continent has at one time or another been dominated by pre-colombian civilizations, the Spanish Empire, the French Empire, the British Empire, and finally the independent states that emerged beginning with the United States.
