As part of our ongoing series of historical video-maps, we present: ‘Every Year of the Mongol Empire.’ The video begins in 222 BC at the founding of the Xiongnu Empire, an early confederation of nomadic tribes from what is now Mongolia, and continues through the numerous manifestations of Mongolian civilization, ending in 2017. Under the leadership of the descendants of Genghis Khan, the Mongolian Empire achieved its maximum territorial extent around 1279, becoming the largest contiguous land empire in history. It is a title that it still holds to this day.
