As part of our ongoing series of historical video-maps, we present ‘The Largest Cities in North America Since 1600’ by YouTube creator Ollie Bye. Starting in 900 BC, the following video-map shows the five most populous cities in North America every year until the present day. With a population estimated to be 150,000 people, the city of Caracol, the heart of the Mayan civilization, was once the largest city in North America. Since then Mexico City, Havana, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Toronto have all ranked in the top five at one point or another.
