As part of our ongoing series featuring historical video-maps from around the web, we present the ‘European Exploration of the Pacific Ocean,’ by YouTube creator Costas Melas.

The following map shows the various European voyages to explore the Pacific Ocean. The video starts in 1521 AD with Ferdinand Magellan’s crossing of the Pacific as part of his global circumnavigation, the first time a European had entered the Pacific from the Atlantic. It covers most of the major European voyages in the Pacific through James Cook’s legendary exploration of the Pacific in the mid 1700s.
